We are at the beginning of a new year for teachers and officers. All those who serve in these ministries are leaders to some degree or another. Leadership skills are very important, whether it is

teaching and working with the youngest child or the oldest adult.

Jim Unger (our new Associate Pastor), will be training our new Sunday school teachers and officers in a few weeks. Although this article is not about teaching, I would like to discuss one aspect of leadership.

Did you know that God is a "planner?" Many people think they don't need clearly defined plans in order to be successful. They want to "fly through life by the seat of their pants." But I'm here to tell you that God uses planning and so should you. All through the Bible, we see God laying out a specific plan and then working to bring it to pass. In the account of creation, God says, "Let us make man in our image." He established the goal of creating a being that would be in His image and then He set about achieving that goal. It's a pattern we see repeated over and over in the Bible.

I encourage all our leaders to follow God's example, set some clear goals, write them down and then go to work. Many leaders do not plan to fail, they just fail to plan. I’m looking forward to the greatest fall we have had; numerically, financially, and spiritually, because of strong leadership in all our ministries.
